Those cartoons [Feb. 2nd, 2006|10:56 pm]
Peter Sheil
Here are a couple of those cartoonms everyone is getting worked up about :-

There is more at http://www.di2.nu/files/Muhammed_Cartoons_Jyllands_Posten.html (although the page was very slow loading).

Personally I'm quite happy with the two I've posted here, or I wouldn't have posted them. I can see why the first one on the linked page might upset some people, but I think it would be wrong to ban free speech on this subject.

If all the religions claim to be peacefull, let's have an end to this insanity of missionaries and converting people by the sword - which is what they all do! Let people choose their own religions/beliefs!!!

The other thing is that we have a secular society and a thing called freedom of speech! Maybe the religions should ask themselves what it is they're doing wrong to ignite the need to create cartoons aboutt he religions and their major characters? God knows - we've had cartoons lampooning the Bible for many, many years - and nobody's got up in armsabout it and threatened all kinds of hell! The Vatican might 'tut' a bit - but it doesn't call for boycotts etc... it understands - which is an amazing thing in itself!

People will gravitate to the religion/beliefs that they need for themselves to be able to function - let's have teaching and learned discussion of these things - not the insanity of impossing a belief structure. All that shows is a severe immaturity of the concerned religions - maybe they'll grow up one of these days? But I'm not holding my breath!

PS - I've noticed a tendency for the bigots in this world to hijack religion for their own ends - they're the ones causing most of the problems! Problem is that my methods of dealing with bigots are likely to be regarded as a 'touch excessive'!!!
