Tonight [Aug. 17th, 2005|11:16 pm]
Peter Sheil
Well that was an exciting break. I was typing away on my laptop, sitting on my bed, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement on the floor by the door. After moving some things around so I could actually see what it was I discovered a huge spider ... about 3 inches across!

Now I normally just take spiders out - they are good things to have and eat flys and other things, but this one was bigger than I wanted to touch. I didn't have a glass or anything I could see to catch it under. What was I to do?

I found an envelope and, at the second try, a supermarket plastic bag without a hole in the bottom. Then I used the envelope to herd the spider around ... up the wall in a gravity defying way until I gave gravity a help and it fell into the bag. Then all I had to do was keep shaking the bag to stop it climbing out and head for the front door, turning lights on along the way so I could see if it was escaping. I was barefooted so walking over the front mat was a bit like crossing a bed of nails :) When I got outside I shook the bag ... nothing ... so I shook it again ... still nothing. Finally I tilted the bag over slowly and the spider plopped out and scuttled away over the lawn.

Right, off to bed now.

You're lucky. I had a small spider bite me as I lay in bed.

It hurt terribly and eventually had to go to the doctor to have him check
the big bump it had left on a certain part of my body.

I did have a cup to scoop it into. How clever of you to capture
that spider without a cup!

well I've had a couple of small bites recently but never found what was doing it. M<aybe it got to be so big by drinking my blood ... vampire spiders ... and looking at my arms they do seem to be a bit hairy ... is the moon full soon? Peace peter
