My company is rolling out SP2 *holds head in hands* however they have created some links which might help explain things (from an MS viewpoint). The comments are, of course, my own. :)

I got a pop up a few weeks ago ... MSN has updated your IM, do you want to download the newer IM now?
And it didn't give me a no option.
And it was really, really persistant.
So I finally download the newest version of MSN IM.
And it doesn't work. It wont sign me in.
But! Lucky for me! The MSN IM pop up is still coming up! Do I want to download the newest version of MSN IM?
So, sure...lets over right it. something hickuped when downloading the first time.
And it doesn't work. It wont sign me in.
But! I'm sooooo lucky! I still get the MSN IM pop up! I CAN DOWNLOAD AGAIN!

No, what I"m going to do is removed MSN IM from my system, and leave the ganky email.

Two possible reasons I can think of
1. Does it need you to be logged in as an admin to do the update?
2. Do you need to uninstall the previous version before installing the newer one?

It wont sign me in.
Either way, or which ever way, I don't need MSN enough to need a manual to figure it out.

I'm happy with Yahoo., which doesn't give me troubles.
