Windows XP SP2 features security crater - report
By Andrew Orlowski
Published Wednesday 25th August 2004 18:03 GMT

Windows XP Service Pack 2 has a flaw that gives users a false sense of security - quite literally. One report describes the security hole as a 'crater'. The vulnerability lies in the web systems management interface (WBEM), which allows downloadable code to spoof firewall status information.

ADSL? Fast? Pah!

What would you do with ten megabits per second, instead of 512kilobits? Better start thinking, because even with the big telcos dragging their feet, that's going to be commonplace by 2007... and it's already a reality for many Scandinavian computer users.

Oh, no! Not Andrew Orlowski! When he claimed he hated bloggers and would never blog himself, illuminoid created the Andrew Orlowski Leet Blog which automatically "blogs" Andy's updates in El Reg.

I'm sure he's making a valid point in this article.

As for faster Internet access, I'd probably share more files and download more. What totally new thing can one do with 10Mbps that can't be done slowly (or with less resolution) with 0.5Mbps? The Scandinavian net users seem better at ripping DVDs ;-)

PS. illuminoid says since El Reg changed the format of the filenames he hasn't bothered to fix Andrew Orlowski Leet Blog so it won't be updating again ever.
