Quick update [Aug. 23rd, 2004|09:44 pm]
Peter Sheil
1. Have updated runningdiary, see there for details.
2. Have got a radio router running on Joe's ADSL connection - still got to get the radio bit tested.
3. Work is busy, may not be updating much during the day.

That's all for now.

Edit: I now remove the network cable, say the magic words "Wireless LAN" and voila ... mobile computing :)
Just for a change technology working first time! Yay.
Edit2: Now back on the cable - I always get a kick when I pull out the network card, plug in a network cable and it all just carries on with open browser sessions ... hey I'm a geek, and easily pleased! :)))

lol yep, although in this case I'll get a benefit from it, Internet access from Joe's whilst sitting anywhere in his place ... or possibly anywhere in the village :) I'll try that one evening when it's dry.

The price of that sort of stuff is coming down. An ADSL modem plus wireless router is something like 90 or 100 GBP (I guess it would be the same in dollars for you guys). I don't have the price of a wireless card for the laptop to hand ... OK, went and searched and a Netgear 802.11g PCMCIA card is about GBP 40.

I don't actually use a wireless setup at my London flat 'cos I've already got network / phone points in the three rooms I need them but I might do so in the future - I have a wireless base unit ready to plug into the network when I'm ready.
Wireless will be much more useful round at Joe's as I can be in the lounge or my bedroom typing away and not disturb Joe in his office.
