From the ridiculous to ... [Jun. 8th, 2004|09:17 am]
Peter Sheil
I was following a van for a short while this morning on my way in to work and the sign on the back said "London Beer Gas". Now personally I'm quite clear what gas is created by drinking beer ... I just can't understand why they want to bottle it. Or have I got the wrong end of the stick? Maybe they turn it into fuel? ;)

As another aside I pass a place which, I presume at least, produces wood. They are called something like R Shadwell Ltd and are just south of the North Circular Road somewhere to the north-east of London. They have a sign up displaying the "Veneer of the Week"; I remember this from the time when I was passing along that bit of road every day and I always looked out for the new veneer. Last week the veneer was something like "Narrow Grain Red Oak" and his week it is "Crown Cut Plain Ash". What a fine sounding name, rolls off the tongue and resounds in my head with hidden meanings.

Crown :The Queen and all the history of our royal family
Cut :The end of that, beheading, Oliver Cromwell, revoluion
Plain :The British people, carying on regardless of the machinations of the politicians
Ash :The remains after fire, death and cremation

I know, I'm just a romantic at heart :) but that's just how I am, inpart at least. I'm also an incurable cynic :)welcome to "Contradictions R Us" :)

Right, off to look for a website where they are showing pictures of the sun ... if I understand it correctly someone has driven a transit van into it and if you look you can see its shadow *shrugs* This science stuff is strange eh?

I take that back

That's not what you wanted at all. This one is an old photo of another planet. Sorry.

Re: I take that back

I get that feed as well but thanks for taking the time to pass it on :) If you look at a later post you'll see that I found a nice site in Sweden; I also spent some time looking at the one at Shefield which was pointed to by the BBC's page but I didn't think the pictures were so good.
