Good morning [Oct. 18th, 2003|02:15 am]
Peter Sheil
It's been a while since I posted so here's a brief summary of my week.

London with one client then rush over to another client for an emergency. Got back to my flat in the evening and about 6 hours organising the contents so that the windows could be replaced with new double-glazing ... finished about 2 AM :( I couldn't have mnaged without the help of my sister, thanks Mary :)

Early start as I needed to be at Cardiff for 9 AM. All was going OK for arriving at about 8.30 'till junction 24 of the M4. There had been two accidents earlier and the motorway (and all surroundding roads) was hardly moving. Finally got to the office at 9.30 ... but one ot the other guys going to the meeting was still behind me on the motorway so I wasn't the last one there. We went off to a meeting at a rival consulting firm's office - we are taking over an appliction from them 'cos the client has decided to change the support company (it's not entirely friendly change, as you might well expect), We are trying to get enough informtion to support a whole raft of applications with seemingly almost no recent documentation whilst our rival is giving us just as much information as they are required to, This is going to be a challenge over the next few weeks! I'll gloss over the details here to protect the guilty :)

Eventually got back to the office and then headed off to find my hotel - due to an error in the post code of the hotel instead of being about a mile away it was actually 20 miles away *sigh* hiddden away down a couple of tiny unlit roads and behind a pub so you can only just see their sign from the road. Talk about a trek and a half.

The breakfast I ordered had a prepackged cereal and milk combined ... but when I opened the milk there was a clear slightly yellow liquid at the surface and solid lumps at the bottom with a sweet vinegar smell! Trolled long in sleepy coma to request another one with fresher milk ... which was fine when I opened it, so I got two portions of cereal wetted down with the one milk.

Had a day of random meetings, administrative trivia and preparing a release of a system for delivery to a client in London next time I was there. Also ended up scheduling time for the next two weeks, Ended up late at work trying to get some time sheet system to accept my hours and expenses. Got back to my London flat about 11 PM. New windows look nice but whole place smells of sealant. Ate, slept.

9.30 Dentist appointment, cleaning, two X-rays and a small filling = 60 pounds :(
Afterwards I called in on my Mum for a chat, then headed back to my flat and then in to London. Dropped a backup tape off at one client then headed to Moorfields Eye Hospital for my checkup. Eyes are much the same - vision with both eyes together is better than 20-20 although individully they are not quite so good. Got a 6 month supply of my contact lens fluids for just over 40 pounds :(

After this I headed down to the river and took a few pictures round the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and that strange man in his little box on the end of a crane. The ground round there is very dusty and I found my eyes were getting very irritated as I went back to the tube station - at some points they were watering so much I had to stop walking because I just couldn't see enough. Eventually made it back home safely but my eyes were so sore that I decided not to drive down to Southampton for the Morris practice.

Fell asleep at 6.30 PM, woke up gain at 10 but was asleep again by 11 ... ZZZzzz...

In to London to client by just fter 9.30; was still on client's site at 10 PM :(( It all went OK 'till the last change request and it took ages to track down why it wasn't quite working correctly. Tried to set up the release of the changes but was eventually thwarted by a technical problem.

Came home, did some shopping for basics, emptied water from my freezer which my sister had started defrosting for me earlier in the day, ate a bit, washed up, started typing this. I'm using a desktop PC as the cables for my laptop are still packed away. This f%$&(*g keyboard has an "a" key that doesn't always type ... it's been driving me md whilst I've been typing this. Plese excuse ny typing errors I've missed correcting.

Things to do at the weekend
Get a packet from the post office - it needs to be signed for
Get my suit from the dry cleaners
Clean / organise / paint ceiling in kitchen with my sister ... yes I kmow a brush would be easier ;)
Late afternoon dinner with Mum
organise some bills for paying later in the week

Morris dancing at Burseldon (sp?) brick works - we are scheduled to be dancing at 12 and 2 if you want to come along
If I get down there early enough then 11 kilometer training run
sorting / removing some of my clothes from the Southampton house

OK, that's enough for now, I'm off to bed. Take care and have fun.

Hi Ellie,

Yep, I am busy but I thought I had replied - I'll look and see.

My next trip over there is from the 30th October 'till the 3rd November when I'm over for the New York Marthon, staying in the Milford Plaza 270W 45th Street - I just love the US ddress systems :) I'll be posting more details in a while and trying to get people to give me money (for charity)

Off to bed now ... well soon anyway.

Hi, I saw your post about the mixer, sent a mail requesting it, then thought...shit..hope this guy is not a weirdo, checked out your user info and it had me smiling and nodding so I added you as a friend. I hope you do not mind. I especially enjoyed the geek code, I should post mine. Although I think my profile speaks for itself on the geek factor front.

You didn't add a link to decode the geek into English ... well OK actually fractured American but it is easier to understand than that string *grizzle grizzle*

I replied to your e-mail :) I'll read your journal later and see if I want to add you - nothing personal but I have trouble keeping my head above water with my friends list as it is :)

Kisses forehead boo boo. Gives big {{{{HUG}}}} & sends some postive vibes that it will work. I hate the thought you are working so late at night & not coming home to a nice, hot meal. :-* 143
