Cut for your sanityCollapse )
Hmm, not completely accurate as my natural spelling is crap :) but I do not appreciate sloppy usage of the English language [Americans are excused 'cos they have a different language even if they don't realize it :))))) ]

Some quotes [Apr. 21st, 2004|07:53 pm]
Peter Sheil
I was looking for some quotes using "consistent" and the following were amongst the 3 pages worth of results :-

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the bible is filled, it would seem more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.
Thomas Paine (1737 - 1809)

A consistent pursuit of classical physics forces a transformation in the very heart of that physics.
Werner Heisenberg, Philosophical Problems of Nuclear Science, New York: Fawcett 1966, p.13

Delores breezed along the surface of her life like a flat stone forever skipping along smooth water, rippling reality sporadically but oblivious to it consistently, until she finally lost momentum, sank, and due to an over- dose of flouride as a child which caused her to suffer from chronic apathy, doomed herself to lie forever on the floor of her life as useless as an appendix and as lonely as a five-hundred pound barbell in a steroid-free fitness center.
Winning sentence, 1990 Bulwer-Lytton bad fiction contest.

Christian, n. One who follows the teachings of Christ insofar as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin.
Ambrose Bierce (1842 - 1914), The Devil's Dictionary

Not deliberately selected as anti-Christian even if it looks that way.

I'm not sure how much on-line time I'll have on Thursday as I'm getting my car serviced and heading down to Southampton in the evening. Then on friday it is Dentist in the morning, fitting having a water meter fitted at my london flat then off for a weekend away with Lucy and Steve. weather looks set fair so hopefully a good time will be had by all :)

catch you all sometime :)
