Today [Sep. 17th, 2002|07:48 am]

I was in work early today - actualy at the office about 6:45, before the security guard was there to open up. I did get a wonderful view of the sunrise - pink swirls against a blue background and a darker band of cloud ahead of me - quite photogenic. I'm here extra early so I can leave early and try to get to see the Southampton Boat Show. They have one of the tall ships in this year. If I get any good pics I'll post them later.

Take care, be well, peace

Happy birthday to :-) ?? [Sep. 17th, 2002|02:39 pm]

The smiley is 20 years old this week, according to a Microsoft researcher.
Mike Jones, at the firm's Systems and Networking Research Group, told news website Ananova that he discovered the original emoticon after six months of "computing archaeology".

He explained that the first smiley appeared in a posting on 19 September 1982 in a bulletin board post at the Carnegie Mellon University.

The image appears in a message which says: "I propose the following character sequence for markers :-)."

If the claims are true, the popular emoticon celebrates its twentieth birthday this week.

No pics from the Boat SDhow. Kim took the camera to work today - she says she did tell me she was going to - *frustrated*

Lots of boats *drool drool*
replica of the Endeavour - Captain Cooks boat. You can even crew it as it sails around the country. I'm tempted, but no loave days left for this year so will have to wait 'till next year.

Also saw a 3,000,000 pound boat! Ordered two :) Yes, right!

Going to bed soon - although just seen a friend on Windows Messenger
Nite nite
