Quotes of the day [Jul. 30th, 2002|08:23 am]
Peter Sheil
A rumor without a leg to stand on will get around some other way.
John Tudor

I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it.
Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890 - 1969)

Those who flee temptation generally leave a forwarding address.
Lane Olinghouse

The greatest mystery is not that we have been flung at random between the profusion of matter and of the stars, but that within this prison we can draw from ourselves images powerful enough to deny our nothingness.
Andre Malraux

My feet ... [Jul. 30th, 2002|08:24 am]
Peter Sheil
... are even more painful today :( Had my first ibuprofen of the day and about to go back to bed. Will probably be off-line most of the day but the text msg thingy on the bio page works for short messages.

Ido not remember experiencing so much pain ever - even my usual mental techniques of pain control are failing me.

Peace

Feet - update [Jul. 30th, 2002|09:32 pm]
Peter Sheil
Well I've seen the Doctor and he agrees that it was gout, but the later pain is being caused by strained tendons caused by me walking funnily to compensate for the pain in my right big toe. He's put me on indomethacin capsules 50 mg 3 times a day after meals and says rest the feet. Easier said than done in my job :) but I'm staying at home for another day - will probably book it as 1/2 day sick and 1/2 day working.

So it will all get better by itself and all I need to do is block the pain. Anyone else think that is missing some of the point here? I actually want to prevent it coming back again, so some advice on that would have been helpful. I'll actually follow the advice of various web sites I and various other people found and keep off coffee and alcohol for a while, have lots of veg and fruit, avoid pastry, drink more water. Oh and have cherries and strawberies cos they actually reduce the level of the chemical (pralene? or something like that) that triggers the production of uric acid.

I'll give you a progress report later to let you know if the pain drops to a manageable level on Wednesday.

Peace ... please
peter
