Amen to that. Here in the US, a lot of parts of the country are seeing crime skyrocket, especially in my city (Boston). A lot of people have lost their jobs since the economic downturn, so of course they turn to crime, if there's no jobs to be had. It seems pretty simple to me, but for some reason the authorities just aren't making that connection.
