That is so true (and so sad). I refuse to live in one of those type of neighborhoods. And I don't know about England, but here those types of neighborhoods also have homeowners associations. Homeowners associations are contracts you sign when you move into the neighborhood which details what you can and cannot do with your house and property (e.g. what colors you're allowed to paint the outside of your house, whether or not you're allowed to put up a fence (and what kind), how often you have to mow your lawn, etc.), all in the name of "property values". I refuse to live someplace where I'm forced to have my home look like everyone else's and I can't landscape without permission and approval. Unfortunately, neighborhoods without homeowners associations are getting harder and harder to find.
