Hey Doreen, here's a pic for you :)

Bet you're glad you don't have to drive around that one :)

Peace

Holy Horror! Each entrance has its own roundabout?
*seriously runs screaming*

I think this one is in Swindon, but I'm not sure. There is another one in Hemel Hempstead which has six mini roundabouts scattered around a big central roundabout :)

You just treat each mini roundabout as a normal roundabout, with the normal priorities, and it is "easy" ... ish :)

Peace
peter

But why the turn lanes in the middle? There's another 'inside' roundabout as well? and there's no stop lights!

you go the "wrong" way around the inner roundabout! no stop lights means that if it's clear you can go, so there are no unnecessary delays (in theory).

Re: Google, google, google

A river runs through it? Cool! Is it navigable?

Do any of these magic roundabouts have a posted escape velocity?

no idea, there is a canal nearby though (just south). I'd guess you probably could in a canoe but not in a "real" boat :)

No, you just need to get into the correct lane and go for it :)

Re: Google, google, google

How about if we build another magic roundabout around the point where those three canals intersect in the middle of Birmingham?

(I suppose if you tried to build a roundabout into the canal system itself, the result would be a huge whirlpool...)

Re: Google, google, google

If you look at the BCN you'll see that it is actually quite like a series of interconnected "roundabouts" :)

You've driven that Swindon roundabout, haven't you? With me and Kay?

All the little roundabouts have lanes marked, so all you need to do is (a) know where you want to go, (b) work out which lane you need to be in (c) try and get into the correct lane (d) work out what to do when you go through the roundabout in the wrong lane and head off in the wrong direction. Simple!

Re: !!

Well the right correct side of course! If you do it during the rush hour it will be easier 'cos each of the "wrong" ways to go will be full of cars :)

That roundabout needs it's own bypass! And why haven't they put a rest area in the middle for all the lost souls who can't find their way off it?

How about a pub with a car-park? That would make it even more "magical."

Strangely enough Dave, I know of a roundabout with a pub in the middle of it - I think it's on the A31 near Fareham.

Actually... it's quite a nice pub - if you like being surrounded by the younger set - however that was about 10 years ago - so maybe it's changed?

Certainly a cool drink would be a good idea... which of you sterling gentlemen are offering?

I'll offer, if I ever make it to Fareham.

But the next question is, does this pub allow morris dancing? Or can this be done without interfering with traffic?

It's got a huge car park and there used to be a lawn outside! I'm not sure it's a good venue though in the winter - I seem to remember a slope being involved and I haven't seen skating as part of Morris Dancing!
