Friends in Florida [Sep. 9th, 2004|11:16 am]
Peter Sheil
The latest 5-day Forecast Track for Hurricane Ivan puts it over southern Florida, heading north, early Monday morning. haven't those guys had enough of a pounding this year? If you have any friends in Florida they'll need all the luck / positive energy / prayers you can send them!

Peace
peter

Edit: The image is actually changed as they update the forecast. As of now (17:00 BST) it is going west of the tip of Florida and coming ashore on the west coast.

They have internationally agreed names - see http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames.shtml for the list of different names used for storms in different areas.

storm path

at the moment they are forcasting Ivan to hit the top of western Florida and now we are weary of heading up that way tomorrow and becoming caught in it. we will watch the morning hurricaine report to see, the worst thing we could do is get caught going north in the car in it, today they reported the northern route 95 and florida north turnpike were bumper to bumper and traffic crawling at about 20mph all the way up.
where ever we end up you will "always" be welcome in our home! room and board free! (Maines cheaper to visit and much prettier during fall).
xxxxxxxx
will do a quiclie update early in the morning after seeing the hurricaine update.

Re: storm path

With the latest track forecast I've seen it might be better to head east ... unless it changes course again! They are saying that it is "wobbling" south of Jamaica so maybe it will head a bit further west by the time it makes landfall on the US coast. I'll try and mentally push it that way but I'm not sure how much I can move it :)

I think if I phone at 2PM my time that will be 9AM your time ... I think that's right. I'll try and call then and have the latest forecasts up on my laptop in case you guys cann't get them.

Re: storm path

I phoned and left voice mail, hope you get it. Is there anywhere secure in your town you can go? Seems like you can drive off but you don't know that you aren't heading the same place as Ivan.

(hugs) to you both

Re: storm path

yes my fathers place on the coast is very secure and may be the option if needed, we were going to leave to go up the coast last night but where Ivan may well end up there we thought twice and decided to wait. it looks as if it may end up hitting northwest florida as apposed to down here so the idea of becoming caught in it up there and possibly in traffic sounds a bit scarier.
most of our neighbors and family have opted to stay down here out of its way. i know they said on telly that all roads heading north are wall to wall traffic and moving very slow.
sorry we missed your call, i thought youd call husbands cellphone! you left a message? ill have to have a listen! i loooove english accents!!! we told our rental lady we are leaving and shes very angry with us, can you imagine?
