Ahh, a moment to comment on life [Feb. 13th, 2004|10:43 pm]
Peter Sheil
Seems like it's ages since I wrote a real entry here, I'll try and make amends now :)

I just cleared a two days backlog of my friemds list ... had to go back over 150 entries ... wow. What will happen if I ever take a week off? Like over Easter?? Ah well I'll see when I get back I guess.

I've spent most of this week working in London, which is OK in some ways but I still hate travelling on the tube when it is full during the rush hours. A couple of times I ended up in very crowded trains hardly able to move and with my face wedged near other people's. Good thing I'd had the breath freshener eh? :)

I won't comment on where I'm working except to say that they have a very nice restauraunt and glass lifts on the outside of the building. Other things will be reserved for friends only posts, if indeed I say anything at all.

The other evening I was dozing on the tube home when I suddenly noticed the station sign and leapt of the train just before the doors closed. I walked towards the exit and then stopped in confusion. In front of me where two escalators going up to the surface and one coming down. Nothing so strange in that you may say. Well no, except that in the morning when I had boarded my train I had gone down an escalator, there had been one up escalator and between them had been a set of stairs. Now I know London Transport (or whatever they are now called) are supposed to be getting things moving but replacing a set of stairs with an ecalator all done in a day????? No way!

The solution was quite simple. The station I traavel from (or to in the evening) is Bounds Green, the one before that is Wood Green. I had actually glimpsed the "Green" bit of the sign when I was dozing :) I just turned around and went back to the platform for the next train, all nonchalant. Us spies have to check we aren't being followed you know ... standard practice *cough* :)

My web site has been taking a knocking over the last few days - never seemed to be there when I went to check it :( It seems that the server it was hosted on had been hacked and the company running the hosting servers either hadn't noticed or hadn't realised what was going on. My hosting contract is with a company called DrakNet and up until September / October last year I'd been happy with them. They are a small company that I support for a number of reasons, primarily personal recommendation of a close friend but I also support the company ethos [look at the company web site at http://www.drak.net to see what I mean] Anyway Drak don't own the hardware, servers etc they use but have a contract with another company that supplies the "server farm" [collection of managed servers]. Last year Drak moved, with no notice to their customers, to a new hosting company. This was bad timing for me as I was unable to update my website for well over a month just at the time I was trying to post my pictures from the last flights of Concorde. In truth there is little that is actually time critical about my site and although it was frustrating it wasn't part of my livelihood as it was for some others.

Over the past few months there have been a number of problems, mostly not affecting my site. But after some while we all moved again onto different servers with more disruption and changes. It's at times like that that I'm glad I haven't got around to having lots of PHP scripts and making the whole site database driven (although that will be coming). So now we are on the move again only this time to a completely different hosting company because of the problems with the previous one. Hardware was promised but not installed, response times were longer than expected, things just didn't get done when promised. It was getting to the point where there was going to be a mass exodus of Drak customers unless something was done. So it is off to another hosting company only this time the move will be "seemless" ... or should that be "seamless" ... hmm it's getting too late :) So, hopefully, by next week http://www.blodtandsmidigt.com will have a smart new home and you should all see no difference, except that it will actually be there when you go and look for it.

Right, has that made up for my lack of posting over the last few weeks? If not I'll dig out my 15MB image I created of a brick wall that you can tile ... wooowooo ... I may be using a version of it as the background of the website in a while. (don't worry that one will be a lot smaller)

So long, Peace to you all, Strength and positive energy to all who need it and may your deity do appropriate things for you :)
Oh and (hugs) as well :)))

PS Hands up all of you who'd like me to do another phone post so you can hear my gorgeous husky tone? Oh I thought so, all right maybe at the weekend then.
Peace
