Haiku [Feb. 1st, 2002|01:21 pm]
Peter Sheil
The Web site you seek
cannot be located but
endless others exist.

Stay the patient course;
Of little worth is your ire -
The network is down

To have no errors
Would be life without meaning
No struggle, no joy

*no GPFs; no late nights debugging code; no irate users; no corrupt databases - sure sounds like paradise to me*

You step in the stream
but the water has moved on.
This page is not here.

*Rushed*

You're a haiku freak! I'm burned out on haikus because every year for english class, my teachers have made us study them. They're losing their fun for me.

Re:

Ahh that is a shame! I find them very expressive in such a concise form. Being a geek I'm not that "literate" :) and haiku are the only verse form I am happy writing. For me they capture several of the senses and recreate a moment in time.

Why not imagine an emotional moment in your life. Think about all the senses - smell, sight, sound, taaste. Picture the little details and then just put down the words that come to mind. In a traditional haiku there should be a seasonal reference and a juxtaposition of to conflicting or complementary images. Does that sound like more fun? :)))

How about your Riki Tiki scene ... would that generate a haiku for you? I need inspiration to start but once I get going a lot spill out - even the occasional good one :) The computer ones are not original - they were posted on the net several years ago and I rediscovered them when tidying up some papers.

Take care and hope you can ppreciate haiku in the future

Tell me the following three cat haiku don't make you laugh ...

Grace personified,
I leap into the window.
I meant to do that.

Blur of motion, then
Silence, me, a paper bag.
What is so funny?

The mighty hunter
Returns with gifts of plump birds
Your foot just squashed one

In each one I see a picture of the cat actually doing it and curl up in laughter.
