Home again [Jul. 8th, 2003|06:10 pm]
Peter Sheil
Well I made it back to the UK safely, if a little tired. I flew into Gatwick about 10 minutes early on Monday morning after quite a rough flight across the Atlantic. I guess we were playing with the jet stream - we had the "fasten seatbelt" sign on for about half the flight and they even got the stewardesses seated straight after serving the meal. I draped my camera with a couple of napkins for protection as I watched the cup of tea on the next seat tray and the two glasses of water on my own seat tray sway and jerk around madly. They all just stayed in their respective containers but it was a close thing.

Once on the ground and reunited with my suitcase I headed off for the trains and discovered that the "best" way to get to Southampton was via Brighton. *shrugs shouldrs* There used to be a direct train but it seems to have been rescheduled /rerouted. I ended up having to change twice (at Brighton and Fareham). My last leg was on a train actually going to Cardiff (my final destination of the day) but it wouldn't have waited at the station while I got my bags packed with "work" clothes :)

I had a bath and just crashed out on the bed - intending to "just rest my eyes for a minute". When I woke up several hours later I realised that I wouldn't be getting to Cardiff in time to work that day :)

Kat, I'm sorry for ringing you at 3 AM your time, but I figured you'd probably prefer me to call and let you know I was safe - my later call leads me to believe that was the correct decision :) (((((HUGS)))))

To the rest of you *BIG WAVE*
I'm a bit behind in reading my friends list and may well miss out some stuff just to actually cope with it all :) So ((Hugs)) to everyone, hope you are well and fit (or at least as fit as you were when I left) and hope to catch up and comment a bit over the next few days.

I'll actually be doing quite a bit of flying over the next few months. I've got a booking for a trip on Concorde *does little dance* (can't remember if I've told you all that before?) I phoned the travel agent up about it as I was in the departue lounge for the flight from London to Atlanta last week. I'd got my name down on a list for possible flights and managed to get one - it is outrageously expensive but it's a "once-in-a-lifetime" thing so I guess spending 2 months salary on it is OK. *gulp* I fly to New York on a conventional jet, have a few days over there then fly back on Concorde. I just hope here are plenty of photo opportunities. {oh forgot, this will be happening in late September, I'll give you the dates when I get my head more together :) )

I'm also flying over again in November for the New York Marathon - international man of mystery or what? *"Oh Baby" in sexy voice then sniggers and spoils the illusion :) *

OK, time to go - peace and prosperity to you all
