Challenge ... [Jan. 8th, 2003|01:45 pm]
Peter Sheil
This lunch time I went out and bought 3 books by the same author.

Anyone want to try and guess the author or one of the titles?
No prizes, just the feeling of smugness if you get it right :)

PS all the information you need to find the answer is in Live Journal,
but not mine :)

Re:

Nope, but a good guess.

I did have the set of the three books, but the middle one , The Two Towers, has been lent and I've no idea where it is now, ho hum.

I think the author you are after is still alive.

Just for you :)

Since, apart from the person who actually told me about them, only you commented I'll just post a link here for you to see (and hear if you like) the stuff the BBC is presenting about Philip Pullman and his Dark Materials trilogy.

Each book is being broadcast as a 2.5 hour program - no commercial breaks here :) - just wonderful, atmospheric drama - on three consecutive Saturday afternoons 2.30 PM 'till 5 PM. The middle book is being broadcast this Saturday and you can hear the first one on the web site at the moment ... I expect that it will be taken down after the second one is broadcast.

There, now you know ... interesting?

I usually say that the pictures are better, but the radio series gave me vivid images of what was going on. I think I'll find the "missing" bits that had to be edited to get it to fit in the limited time. Actually on a very quick flick through the first and last sections of book one they seem very similar. I guess I'll find the differences somewhere between.

Re:

It's more the little bits that were left out, descriptions of places and people and a bit of background and stuff.

But those are the bits that really make the story come to life.

It'll be interesting to see how they do todays Subtle Knife and the Amber Spyglass next week.

Re:

Missed the radio today, my Mum and sister were round for a meal with me, so I've just read the book - v good. I'll try and get the audio from the bbc site but I've never managed it before - usually get stuck getting the real audio player :(

Did you like the radio version? I just caught the first few seconds with Will and his Mum in the supermarket.
